Open Air Mission: a brief overview

The Open-Air Mission (OAM) is an inter-denominational Christian organisation dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ in public spaces. Established in 1853, OAM has a long-standing history of open-air evangelism.

OAM's activities include preaching in open-air settings, conducting school assemblies, organising beach missions, and participating in public events. They also distribute Christian literature during these engagements.

The mission emphasises strong connections with local churches, with all evangelists and team members belonging to Bible-believing congregations. They seek support from local churches in each area of operation, direct enquirers to these churches, and provide training in open-air evangelism.

OAM also offers a Trainee Evangelist Scheme, allowing young men to spend up to a year working alongside experienced evangelists across the UK. Trainees engage in various aspects of OAM's work, including open-air preaching, personal witness, local church ministry, and children's work. This practical experience is complemented by a biblical and doctrinal study course overseen by a committee member.

Through these efforts, The Open-Air Mission remains committed to sharing the message of Christianity and supporting churches in their evangelistic endeavours.
