Have you heard of the Street Preacher’s Charter (put together by the Christian Institute)?
The Street Preacher’s Charter is a published resource designed to support Christian evangelists by clarifying their legal rights and responsibilities when street preaching in England and Wales.
Developed by the Christian Institute, from many years of experience assisting responsible street preachers, the Charter seeks to promote a clear and balanced understanding of the law for both evangelists and police officers. It has received formal endorsement from former Director of Public Prosecutions Lord Macdonald of River Glaven KC, Open Air Campaigners GB, and Open-Air Mission.
The Charter explains the legal framework governing public evangelism and offers practical guidance on good practice. By setting out key principles, supported by extracts from legislation and real-life case scenarios, it demonstrates how the law operates in practice and outlines the respective responsibilities of street preachers and the police.
This resource aims to equip evangelists in England and Wales to engage confidently, lawfully, and responsibly with both the public and law enforcement.
