What if people reject you for sharing the Gospel truth?

When you set out to tell people about the Good News of Jesus, a thought can come across your mind: "What if I am rejected when sharing my faith?" Sharing your faith is an act of love and obedience to God, but it can, more often than not, be met with rejection. The thought of being dismissed or misunderstood might feel daunting, but as Christians, we are called to persevere and trust in God's plan. Let’s explore what the Bible says about facing rejection and how we can respond with grace and confidence.

Rejection is Not Uncommon

The Bible makes it clear that rejection is a reality for those who follow Christ. Jesus Himself experienced it:

“He came unto his own, and his own received him not.” (John 1:11, KJV)

If the Son of God was rejected, we should not be surprised when we encounter similar responses. Jesus even warned His disciples of this:

“If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.” (John 15:18, KJV)

These verses remind us that rejection is not a reflection of our worth or the truth of the Gospel but a consequence of a world that does not yet fully know Christ.

"What if I am rejected when sharing my faith?" - The Call to Persevere

Despite the risk of rejection, we are encouraged to share the good news boldly. The Apostle Paul wrote:

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.” (Romans 1:16, KJV)

Paul’s confidence in the Gospel’s transformative power serves as an example for us. Even when faced with resistance, our focus should remain on the hope and salvation the message brings.

Responding to Rejection

When faced with rejection, our response should mirror Christ’s love and patience. Jesus taught:

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.” (Matthew 5:44, KJV)

Rather than retaliating or becoming discouraged, we can choose to show compassion and pray for those who oppose us. Our gentle and loving response may plant seeds that God can nurture in His timing.

Trusting in God’s Sovereignty

Rejection does not mean failure. God is ultimately in control of the outcome when we share our faith. As Isaiah reminds us:

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11, KJV)

Our responsibility is to be faithful in sharing; the results are in God’s hands.

Remember, when planting a seed, you don't stay looking at the seed, expecting something to appear. You leave it to God to quicken / bring the increase: "I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase." 1 Corinthians 3:6-7

Encouragement for the Journey

Finally, take heart in knowing that you are not alone. Jesus promises:

“Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:20, KJV)

His presence strengthens and sustains us as we step out in faith.

To Summarise:

Rejection when sharing your faith can be painful, but it’s an opportunity to trust God, grow in perseverance, and demonstrate Christ’s love. Remember, your efforts are not in vain, and God can use every interaction for His glory. As you share the hope of the Gospel, rest in the assurance that you are fulfilling a divine calling, and God is with you every step of the way. On a personal note

Before I was saved, I rediculed the message. I rejected it with questions I thought that Christians could never answer. But I am very greatful for those who stuck with me, being patient and continuing in spite of my rejection.
