They can hold church details (for continuity if you go out witnessing regularly) that all those doing the work can point people to for easy reference. They can be read from afar and from many different directions. Once read, the Lord can bring them back to someone's mind at perfect timing.
They can be a great blessing to other Christians who pass by. I am sure you have been somewhere and read a scripture that has been an encouragment to you. Many a time we have ventured onto the streets to make Christ known and Christians have been encouraged or even helped by raising the banner of the Word of God.
They are a great conversation starter. Which leads me straight onto a recent encounter with someone who read the printed scripture boards.
The man was rejecting, but God was working.
While one of us was preaching in our local precinct, a man walked up to one of our printed scripture signs, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23
As he walked away from the board I approached him and simply asked what he thought of the sign and what his thoughts were about God. To which he responded completely uninterested and hostile to even the very idea of there being a God. To which I responded in various ways to seek to challenge him and his worldview.
By the grace of God, he took a Gospel flyer and said he would read it. Even though the conversation was uncomfortable, he still shook my hand and walked away.
Not long after, the same man appeared again, this time walking near another one of the team. A little conversation happened there and he took a tract from him also.
Then, not much time later, he walked towards yet another member of our team and had the longest of all conversation with him!
Not bad considering he had little interest in the things to do with God. But what mercy that even when he was to a degree rejecting God, that God was still mercifully bringing him back to a conversation that was of eternal matters.
Something seems to be afoot with that man and we can pray that the Lord would bring the increase in his heart of the seeds planted.
How glorious that the Lord would continue to pursue one who rejects Him. And that is no doubt the story of us all whom the Lord has graciously saved!
How wonderful if one day that man (none of us managed to get his name) would stand side by side with us as laborers for the glory of the Lord!
